WCP Employee Spotlight: Ron Brown
One aspect that sets WCP apart from competitors is our fleet of iconic yellow trucks, but even more recognizable are the dedicated local drivers, who make every delivery feel personal. One of those drivers, from our Kent, WA location, is Ron Brown, whose dedication to his family mirrors his commitment to his WCP teammates. Ron’s strong work ethic and team-player attitude make him a true leader on our team. His reputation, hard work, and alignment with WCP’s culture are why we’re proud to feature Ron in this month’s employee spotlight.
Ron’s WCP Story
Ron has been with WCP since September 2004, making this month his 20th anniversary with the company. He was hired by Chuck Howard, WCP Kent’s Warehouse Manager, who quickly recognized Ron as a perfect fit for the driving team and the company at large. Ron quickly became the go-to person at WCP’s Kent division.
As a delivery driver, Ron starts his day early, at around 4:30 AM. He spends this early time assisting the dispatch supervisor with planning routes before heading out. Known for his versatility, he steps in whenever the team is shorthanded, taking on various tasks, such as picking up freight that doesn’t fit on the regular route trucks.
More About Ron
Ron grew up in Mansfield, Louisiana, a small town with just two stoplights. He grew up with large family—his grandparents had 11 children. After losing his parents during childhood, Ron moved to Washington State. Throughout his youth, he stayed active by participating in various sports. Today, he is passionate about weightlifting and running and is currently training for a triathlon. In addition to his fitness pursuits, he enjoys riding his quad in the Oregon Sand Dunes and unwinding with a game of chess in the park.
Q & A with Ron
What is your favorite part of working at WCP?
When the checks clear! Not every company’s checks cash on payday. I work my 40 hours and get paid for them. [Note from the editor: 🤣Thanks Ron, we’re proud to be a financially healthy company!]
What is one lesson that your current position has taught you?
Road rage is real, and you have to have patience!
Do you have any advice for new people in the industry who are just starting their careers?
Your first driving job will suck but remember, it is your first driving job. It only goes up from there. There is definitely a growth period in the job. Don’t try to learn everything on the first day. There is always tomorrow to learn something new. Be nice to the senior drivers; they usually have a lot of information you can learn from them.
Can you share some of your favorite memories or stories while working at WCP?
