How to Choose the Right Can Liner
How to Determine What Size of Can Liner to Use
Sometimes “super size” is not always the “right size”, especially when it comes to choosing the right size can liner for your trash receptacles. The proper size can liner is dependent on the size, style, and shape of the bin. Not only can choosing the right can liner help reduce waste, but it can help save you money too. So, below are some tips on determining if you are using the right sized can liner and how to measure your receptacle for the right fit.
How Do You Know If Your Can Liner Fits?
If your can liner is too small, it will not fit properly around the rim of the receptacle and may fall inside when items are placed in it. Ideally, your can liner should only have an overhang of three to five inches. If the overhang of the liner is longer than that or you need to tie it to keep it secure, that is a sign that the liner is too big.
How to Measure Your Receptacle
In order to choose the right size of can liner, you will need to measure the length, height, and width of your receptacle.
- Liner Circumference – To figure out the size of mouth you will need to fit around the circumference of the receptacle, measure the opening of the receptacle and add the length and the width together.
- Liner Length – Measure the height of the receptacle and then add three to five more inches to the height measurement so that there is a little overhang.
*Note: For rectangular or square receptacles, measure the diagonal length of the bin rather than the circumference to measure the width.
